Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
At the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington, researching cures for cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other life-threatening diseases is the highest priority. Providing research facilities that take the surrounding environment and use of natural resources into consideration has also been part of the organization's mission since it was established in 1975.
The Hutchinson Center is designing a data center that will span
4,800 square feet of the 372,500 square-foot building. The data
center will eliminate mixing of hot and cold aisles as one way to
meet the goal of reducing data center cooling by 25 percent over
standard design. The Hutchinson Center will also look for rebates
and incentives in order to incorporate more efficiency measures
and make the project more efficient than code requires. With its
laboratory technical assistance, the Labs21 Technical Team will
help the Hutchinson Center track decisions in the design process
that will improve energy performance in the data center.
The Hutchinson Center's interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists and humanitarians work together to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other diseases. The Hutchinson Center, together with its clinical and research partners, the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Hospital, comprise the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is among 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers nationwide.
