Georgetown University

Georgetown University is planning to construct a new
science building, the university's first new facility in over 20
years. The 150,000-square-foot academic facility will focus on interdisciplinary
interaction among biology, chemistry, and physics laboratories,
and will be connected to the renovated Reiss Science Building in
the future. Georgetown plans to start construction by early 2009,
with the aim of opening the building in early 2011.
With the help of Labs21, Georgetown hopes to achieve LEED®
certification while incorporating innovative urban design features,
and consequently make its new science building a model of sustainable
design on campus. A number of energy conservation measures are being
considered, such as use of an enthalpy wheel, low-flow hoods, and
reducing air-turnover rate. Use of building materials and water
efficiency measures are also being considered during the facility's
design.
Labs21 will provide support throughout the design and construction
of the facility. In particular, Labs21 will help the facility designers
benchmark the building's energy efficiency and develop sustainability
standards that can be used for future construction on the Georgetown
University campus.
Georgetown University comprises four undergraduate schools, three
graduate and professional schools, professional development programs
and certificates, medical residencies, and many other programs and
national research centers predicated on the liberal arts tradition
at the heart of the institution. For more information, visit the
