Greening the Conference
Each year, Labs21 makes every effort to green its
annual conference and reduce the event's impact on the environment.
The following efforts are examples of how the Labs21 Annual Conference
continues to become more sustainable:
-
Labs21 has chosen a host city that is determined
to reduce its energy use and become more sustainable over the
next 15 years. San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed recently unveiled his
plan to make San Jose the newest sustainable city in the nation.
-
Labs21 is working with the San Jose McEnery Convention
Center to have recycling bins in all meeting spaces during the
conference.
-
Labs21 has requested the use of recycled-content
and/or recyclable containers for all conference meals. Labs21
will also try and use non-disposable glasses, dishes, and silverware
whenever possible.
- The Technology and Services fair will feature a number of sustainable
features including:
- Carpet made from post-consumer recycled material.
- Biodegradable trash bags and wastebaskets made from 100%
recycled materials.
- Recycled paper and signage products.
- A “How-to”
section in the online exhibitor’s kit to help exhibitors
reduce their environmental impact before, during, and after
the show.
- The Labs21 Conference strives to generate as little paper waste
as possible. Therefore, attendees lists, conference messages,
conference presentations, and conference certificates are all
sent out electronically.
