University benefits from the vast array of social, cultural, and recreational
opportunities offered by the St. Louis area. Counted among the world's
leaders in teaching and research, the university recently opened
an impressive 151,180 square-foot Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPSc)
Building that houses the research and investigative activities of
the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
As one of the few departments in the country that makes direct
use of knowledge gained by exploring the solar system, the EPSc
Building was designed with careful consideration of its impact on
natural resources. Designed using a holistic approach, the building
opened in the summer of 2004 and is LEED™ registered with the
U.S. Green Building Council.
Participants enjoyed a tour highlighting several of the facility's
sustainable elements. Following the tour, attendees reflected on
the day's sessions during a reception at Whitaker Hall.
