During this evening tour, attendees discovered the latest in sustainabilityfrom
laboratory design to diningat the University
of Portland Considered a model for environmentally sensitive design, planning, and construction, Swindells Hall is a new, 3-story, 42,000-square-foot laboratory building on campus. The high-performance facility houses laboratories, compartmentalized greenhouses, a climate-controlled growth chamber, and a radioisotope suite. Holistic planning resulted in a building that met budget while saving more than $50,000 a year in energy costs. Energy efficient features incorporated into the building include:
