If you are ready to apply sustainable design and management practices
to a specific laboratory project, we invite you to become a Labs21
Partner. To join, you'll need to:
Learn more about each component of the Partnership Program:
- Identify a central
point of contact. This person should be familiar with your
chosen project and have a working relationship with other members
of the project team.
- Identify and describe
a laboratory site as your Labs21 project. Your organization
must choose at least one new construction or retrofit project
to which you will apply sustainable design practices as outlined
by the Labs21 Approach. You will need to provide basic facility
information and energy and water consumption data for each laboratory
project you'd like to include in the program.
- Set measurable energy
and environmental performance goals. An important step
in creating a high-performance laboratory is setting performance
goals early in the process. These goals can help guide you through
each stage of the design process and serve as a basis for comparison
once the project is completed. Labs21 has tools to help you set
goals for your project.
- Benchmark the energy
and environmental performance of your facility. Using Labs21
tools to collect energy and water consumption data, you can
measure laboratory performance and identify potential cost-savings
opportunities. All collected data will be
treated confidentially.
- Share energy and environmental
performance results. So that others may benefit and learn
from your experience, Labs21 asks you to share the results of
your project through presentations at Labs21 conferences, articles
in organizational and trade publications, and other promotional
outlets.
- Report project results.
Within one year of signing the Partnership Agreement Form (and
then once a year for the life your project) you agree to assess
your laboratory project. For more information, please see reporting
results.

If you are committed to sustainable lab design, but
do not yet have a specific lab project, find out how to join
the program as a Prospect.
