University of Colorado at Boulder

The University of Colorado at Boulder plans to build an addition to its Laboratory for Space Technology Research (LSTR) to alleviate space restrictions for each of the four divisions of the lab: Engineering, Mission Operations and Information Systems, Science, and Administration. In line with its commitment to high quality, energy- and water-efficient buildings, the university plans to exceed ASHRAE Standard 90 for this facility upgrade.

The university will exemplify the Labs21 approach through a number of activities, including: achieving fume hood face velocities of 100 feet per minute at 13-inch sash height; targeting 1 CFM/sq. ft. ventilation rates; and investigating ways to incorporate high-performance glazing, entry vestibules, well-insulated walls and roofs, indirect and direct evaporative cooling, water-cooled chiller, and low-consumption restroom fixtures.
