National Aeronautics and Space Administration

Goddard Space Flight Center

A 265,400 square-foot research and office facility is being designed for the Goddard campus of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Greenbelt, Maryland. The campus labs used to manage many of NASA's Earth, solar and space observation, astronomy, and space physics missions, will be consolidated into one facility that will stand as a model of sustainability. The design team is targeting a LEED® Silver rating for the facility by incorporating several innovative and sustainable features into the design. NASA plans to show that by implementing energy-saving features into the laboratory design, cost savings can also be made to the project's bottom line. NASA will use this project to generate excitement for sustainability in other offices within the Agency and throughout the federal government.

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, located in a Maryland suburb outside of Washington, DC, is home to the Nation's largest organization of combined scientists and engineers dedicated to learning and sharing their knowledge of the Earth, Sun, Solar System, and Universe.
