National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration

Rendering of NOAA's new fisheries research lab.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA's) National Marine Fisheries Service is in the process of "renewing" its 50-year old laboratory in Honolulu, Hawaii. NOAA is planning to construct a state-of-the-art mixed use fisheries research laboratory to replace its existing facility. The new "showcase" laboratory will fully incorporate a variety of innovative practices. These include using the "whole building" philosophy to design and maximizing energy-efficient equipment and "green" building products.

NOAA's mission is to describe and predict changes in the Earth's environment, and conserve and wisely manage America's coastal and marine resources. By addressing environmental challenges, NOAA works as an integral part of the Department of Commerce to further the nation's capabilities for sustainable development, embracing the link between the economic and environmental goals of the United States.
