New York City School Construction Authority
The New York City School Construction Authority plans
to construct a landmark 55,000 gross-square-foot science laboratory
annex at Midwood High School, one of the nation's premier teaching
institutions, located in Brooklyn, New York. The project will utilize
a range of sustainable design elements, including a geothermal energy
system, and act as a teaching tool for its students and the surrounding
community. The Authority plans to reduce the annual energy cost
of the building by 40 percent or more from a code-compliant base
case and use the LEED® rating system
as a metric for the design team. Labs21 will provide technical support
during the design, construction, and occupancy phases, and assist
with documenting the design intent and results of the project.
